If you are looking for a department store the three most famous are Myer, David Jones and Westfield. Below are some of their addresses in Sydney:

Myer: 436 George Street, Sydney, NSW
David Jones:  86 -108 Castlereagh Street, Sydney, NSW
Westfield: 450 George Street, Sydney, NSW

There are a lot of supermarkets in the city centre and these are generally open 7 days a week until very late in the evening (until midnight for some of them). The main famous names are:

• WoolWorth (the leader),
• Coles,
• IGA (the one  in Haymarket offer a large choice of chinese food),
• Aldi (Germqn discount supermarkets),
• City Convenience (very expensive but you can shop by Internet),
• Seven Eleven.

Australia has also a lot of mega big suburban shopping centres with 4 or 5 floors. They are good when it is too hot outside (40 degree C) because they are air- conditioned! You will need a car as although buses do go there, the distances to be travelled are longer than what you might be used to in Europe.

They also refer to the little shopping strips on main roads in suburbia as shopping centres. These usually have a convenience store (milk bar) and a chemist, newsagent and post-office. They are often close to the train station and have parking spaces for people to drive there and then commute to work.
