People aged 16 and over and who are unemployed in Spain, they can apply for Unemployment Benefit. SEPE (
Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal) is in charge of compensating unemployment benefits to social security system members in Spain.
Unemployment benefits don't allow you to survive. Benefits start at €497 per month for a person with no children under his/her dependence.
To qualify for Unemployment Benefit you must:
- Be registered at the social security system
- Be legally unemployed and appear as a job seeker in the state employment service willing to accept suitable employment
- Have paid contributions for at least 360 days in the 6 years before becoming unemployed or before the end of your obligation to pay contributions
- Be between 16 years old and the retirement age (standard 65/67 years old)
