Orchestra in Colombo

The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL) is based in Colombo and its Principal Conductor is Dushyanthi Perera. It is one of the oldest orchestras in Southern Asia.

National Museum in Colombo

Established in 1986, this museum is near the National Museum. It focuses on nature like rare and endangered species, local plants, and rocks. The skull of a giant elk is a prize possession.

Galle National Museum
This museum was built within the oldest Dutch building of the Galle fort from 1656. It covers archaeological and anthropological objects such as traditional masks, ornamental turtle shells, and ancient wooden carvings

Ratnapura National Museum
This museum covers the gem trade with prized exhibits like pre-historic fossils, stuffed animals, and artefacts.

Bandaranaike Museum
This museum covers the life and impact of Bandaranaike, the prime minister who had had a lasting impact on the country. Though he was assassinated, his legacy looms large and his speeches, image, and story adorn walls.

National Maritime Museum
This museum covers the intrinsic link between Sri Lankans and the sea. It covers local fishing methods, coral beds, deep sea fish.
